
Things to do in San Diego
We know that many of you are traveling from far away, and for some this may be your first time in San Diego (or even California!). If you are planning to extend your trip and looking for things to do, we’ve provided a few ideas here to help get you started.
Maggie & Connor have been all over the state, and we are happy to provide suggestions outside of San Diego for the ambitious folks looking to extend their California getaway!

Balboa Park: Museums & San Diego Zoo
In addition to the Museum of Art, Balboa Park is home to numerous other attractions, including the Museum of Us, the Old Globe Theater, Fleet Science Center, San Diego Air and Space Museum, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo (don’t forget to see the pandas!). It is also a wonderful place to walk around and view the intricate landscaping and Spanish Colonial architecture.
One of the most picturesque locations in San Diego, Sunset Cliffs overlooks the Pacific Ocean along the southern end of the Point Loma peninsula. As the name suggests, its beauty is unrivaled during the sunset golden hour.

Old Town is the site of the first European colonization of California, settled by Spanish missionaries in 1769. Today, Old Town retains many historical building from the Spanish colonial and early U.S. historical periods alongside modern restaurants, shops, and other attractions.

Village of La Jolla and La Jolla Cove
La Jolla is an upscale, cliff-side neighborhood in northern San Diego. Boutique shopping, high-end restaurants, and art galleries line the main streets of La Jolla village, and La Jolla cove is home to a large sea lion population.
Liberty Station
A former US Naval training station, renovated Liberty Station now encompasses numerous bars and restaurants, art galleries and studios, vintage shopping, a public market, and large waterfront park.
Little Italy
Located just north of Downtown, Little Italy is a trendy neighborhood filled with cocktail bars, boutique shopping, breweries, and LOTS of Italian food.

The Gaslamp District
The Gaslamp District (often just called “The Gaslamp”) is the historic heart of San Diego. It is the center of San Diego’s downtown nightlife and is home to great bars and restaurants, shopping, and Petco Park.
USS Midway Museum
San Diego Harbor is home to a decomissioned aircraft carrier, the USS Midway, which has been converted into a museum open to the public.
Seaport Village
Seaport Village is a waterfront shopping and dining district with spectacular views of Coronado Island and the San Diego Bay.
Belmont Park
Located on a narrow strip between the Pacific Ocean and Mission Bay, Belmont Park is a small theme park containing an iconic wooden rollercoaster originally built in the 1920s.
